MASTERCLASS - Gary Clarke

ARTIST BIO:

Gary Clarke is an acclaimed British Choreographer, Dancer and Artistic Director of Gary Clarke Company. His theatrical dance works have toured extensively both nationally and internationally to critical and audience acclaim. Gary has received a number of awards for his touring productions including A UK Theatre Award for Achievement in Dance, A Critics Circle National Dance Award, A Herald Angel Award and The Summerhall Lustrum Award. His work has been seen in some of the UK's most prestigious dance and theatre houses including Sadlers Wells, The Barbican Centre, The Royal Opera House and The Southbank Centre. He has created stage and site-specific work for a number of other companies and organisations including The National Theatre, Opera North, Sky Arts, Hull City of Culture and The 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games. Gary has worked as a movement specialist on a number of large scale feature films including World War Z, JK Rowling's Fantastic Beasts & Where to Find Them and The Mummy. His performance credits include work with some of the UK's leading dance companies including Matthew Bourne’s New Adventures, Lloyd Newson’s DV8 Physical Theatre, balletLORENT, Lea Andersons' The Cholmondeleys & The Featherstonehaughs, Sadler's Wells Productions, Phoenix Dance Theatre and Candoco Dance Company / Jerome Bel. In 2017, Gary was appointed as an Honorary Fellow at The Northern School of Contemporary Dance. Gary Clarke Company will embark on a national tour of the critically acclaimed WASTELAND in Spring 2023.

MASTERCLASS DISCRIPTION:

Gary's masterclass for Leicester Pro Dance Initiative will pull on 20 years of extensive experience in working across dance, theatre, film and production. This high energy Masterclass will give participants a rare insight in Gary's working processes, choreographic approaches, approaches to performance and warm up / technique classes in a supportive, creative and progressive environment.

The day will consist of a morning warm up / technique class covering areas of Cunningham, Improvisation, Limon and Yoga based techniques, introduction to voice and motion work, repertoire, creative investigations, group sharing and evaluation.
