Vidya's class is going to be open and guided improvisational space exploring collaboration, visualisation, text, rhythm, and music. Open to all levels, you just need to be ready to move in the moment. No prep required.
BIO:
Vidya Patel is a Birmingham based dance artist, choreographer and performer. With foundations of Indian classical dance training, her curiosity led practise strives to extend past society’s boxed expectations, leading he into new spaces, experiences, forms and collaborations. Since graduating from CAT South Asian Strand, at DanceXchange, Vidya represented the South Asian Category in the Grand Finals of the inaugural BBC Young Dancer 2015 at Sadler’s Wells where she is currently a Young Associate choreographer til 2022.She has since performed in international touring works created by critically acclaimed artists Sir Richard Alston, Gary Clarke, Thick & Tight, Hetain Patel and Akademi, Sampad Arts as well as collaborating with artists Shammi Pithia, Connor Scott, Zia Ahmed and Sarathy Korwar. Her performances have been recognised, leading to three nominations at the National Dance Critics Circle Awards amongst others. Most recently, she has been working with artist Hetain Patel, featuring in his latest short film being her acting debut, “Trinity”, and performance work “Baa’s Gold 10” performed at the National Gallery.
Vidya has been choreographing new works on range of dancers, recently working with third years of Rambert School of Ballet and Contemporary Dance, which premiered at Royal Opera House, Sadlers Wells and with Joss Arnott’s Emergence Company touring in the UK 2022. Vidya is interested in developing those with interest in the arts and dance. During the pandemic she has developed a community network, “South Asian Dance Artists UK” and is also a Creative Mentor for One Dance UK’s Young Creative programme.
